The Story of Gideon is a story of against the odds. The story also includes how God gave the army, an opportunity to go home. To go home if they were afraid and two thirds of them went.
God wants to willing and committed, willing to trust, and committed to Him. Not a calling to be brave in ourselves, but trusting in The Lord, for Him to deliver all He has promised. The situation in Gideon time, had cause low morals for the people had been under oppression from the Midians for seven years.
Gideon’s army was coming together, and then through another test, it was reduced to 300, you would kind be thinking at that point in time, I should have left when I had the chance. God doesn’t look for consensus, He is always looking for the willing and committed. The willing and committed have trust in Him, and not in there own abilities.
God can use our abilities, only when we surrender them to Him, because He wants The Glory. 1 Corinthians 6 verse 20:
“For You were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body.”
It was not surprising that Gideon needed the reassurance that came from overhearing the dream of the Midianite soldier. Often, even after a step that took real faith has been taken, doubts begin to creep in. Doubts and fear is not failure, nor is it a barrier to continue service of God. God wants us willing and committed, even though we may have doubts and fears.
Confidence is catching, and Gideon returned to reassure his remaining followers with his own renewed faith that God, who was Sovereign, was with them. We must never forget that God Is ‘Sovereign’, there is nothing He doesn’t know the answer for. Faith from being willing and committed, with God’s help can move mountains.
The Battle in this story of Gideon was won without a fight. The unexpected noise in the middle of the night caused panic and pandemonium in the Midian camp. They virtually defeated themselves, and all that was left was a mopping up operation.
Willingness and commitment and faith and trust in our Sovereign God brought great victory. Let us all be more willing and committed to the Sovereignty of Our Lord and Our Friend, in such a time as we are in.
God Bless.
