From The Heart

Awake o sleeper

Luke chapter 9 verse 32 says that when apostle Peter and his companions were FULLY AWAKE they saw His (Jesus) glory. What does it mean ‘fully awake’?

Habakkuk 2:14 “for the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD as the waters cover the sea”. NLT translations says “will be filled with an awareness of the glory of the Lord. So is being “fully awake” about being aware? In modern day language, being “mindful”?

I often find my mind is occupied with what I have to do tomorrow or next week, and I am not fully aware ‘in the moment’. Whilst we do have to plan, I don’t want to be so preoccupied that I miss the precious moments every day. Holy Spirit is always with us, leading us into the ‘good works prepared beforehand that we should walk in”. I want to be available to Him.

Ephesians chapter 5 verse 14 says “awake o sleeper; rise up from the dead, and Christ will give you light” One description of this “sleeping” Christian is someone who unconsciously lives in darkness in certain areas they have not allowed the Lord to come in to, and thus where the Light does not shine. Their Christian testimony therefore is compromised. These ones, while they have become the righteousness of God in Christ, and therefore are alive to God, may be indistinguishable from someone who is an unbeliever. This living believer may look half asleep from a spiritual perspective; however, since they are actually alive to God, they are called “sleeping/slumbering” Christians.

Isaiah 60:1-2 AMP “Arise (from the depression and prostration in which circumstances have kept you – rise to a new life)! Shine (be radiant with the glory of the Lord) for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you. For behold, darkness shall cover the earth, and dense darkness (all) peoples, but the Lord shall arise upon you and His glory shall be seen on you”

Isaiah 52 exhorts “wake up, wake up – clothe yourselves with strength – put on your beautiful clothes “. Romans 13:14 “clothe yourself with the Presence of the Lord Jesus Christ”. 1 Thessalonians 5:6 “so then let us not sleep as others do, but let us keep wide awake (alert, watchful, cautious and on guard) and let us be sober (calm collected and circumspect)”.

Jesus Christ, our Lord and Friend, is our Rest – let’s daily be aware that we clothe ourselves with Him, being aware our lives are ‘hid in Christ’.

God’s rich blessings.
