From The Heart

Psalm 139:5 The Passion Translation

“You’ve gone into my future to prepare the way; and in kindness you follow behind me to spare me from the harm from my past”

Over the last few weeks, I’ve been enjoying writing on the Holy Spirit and different aspects of His personality that have been shown to me.  I was going to continue with this theme, however last week as I was reading this beautiful Psalm 139, in The Passion Translation, verse 5 stood out to me and I wanted to share it with you.

I am constantly amazed at the love and kindness of our Lord and Friend, and His care for us as we journey through this life.  How encouraging is this word? The Lord is reassuring us that He has gone into our future to prepare the way.  We know that He is the same, yesterday, today and forever.  Jeremiah 29:11 tells us that His plan for us is to give us a future and a hope; a plan for good and not evil.

So no matter what circumstances I find myself in right now in this season, I can be reassured that He has prepared a way for me; for my future.

Not only that, but He has also promised that His kindness is following behind me – it is my rear guard.  What is the reason for His kindness to follow behind me?  To spare me from the harm from my past!  Wow!  I find it interesting that Romans 2:4 says, “His kindness leads to repentance”.  One simple definition of repentance is “to change one’s mind”.

Kindness is the dictionary is described as “the quality of being friendly, generous and considerate.”  Our Lord and Friend is generous and considerate.   This verse says His generosity and consideration is following behind us.  I’m reminded of the Scripture in Psalm 23:6 which says ‘surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life’.  The Passion Translation “only goodness and tender love pursue me all the days of my life”.

How can we not be encouraged when we read these wonderful verses!  One of the things that I have had to ‘repent’ of ‘change my way of thinking’, was in the way I view our Lord and Friend. He is for us.  He is kind and good.  Let’s meditate on that aspect of His character.

God’s Rich Blessings
