Proverbs describes the importance of living wisely and in the fear of the Lord as opposed to following the seductive paths of folly.
Proverbs consists of mostly Solomon’s writings, along with the writing of a few others.
IN proverbs, Solomon shares the wisdom God gave him, bit he himself doesn’t seem to follow it to well.
In Proverbs, God shows us principles and life observations to guide us toward the way he would have us take. And in doing so, He is showing us His heart. Solomon is clear that God is the source of wisdom.
God through Proverbs is showing us what He loves and what He hates. As we read and study proverbs we read and learn about the ways God wants us to know. We are learning about Who God is, His likes and dislikes.
God is showing us, it is His intention that we not make our life choices based on what seems to be good, but we are guided by the awesome and relational reality of know Him. Knowing and Loving Him.
The wisdom in Proverbs often comes across as black and white, hard and fast rules. But life is not as easy as that, let us look at a verse from Proverbs 10 verse 28; “The prospect of the righteous is joy, but the hopes of the wicked come to nothing”. Because the Joy of the Lord is our strength.
God hates sin {wrong-doing things He knows are not good for us to do}. As we read and study the proverbs, our responsibility is to look for God’s heart in the words and follow His Spirit that is within us.
The Book of Proverbs is a great gift from God to us because in the good and in His passion for that good, God is showing us how wonderful He is, and how much He loves us.
God Bless.
