As believers, I really feel like we’ve been asleep. There are just some amazing things that I’ve been reading in the word and having God reveal to me, that I can’t help but feel like we’ve missed. We’ve either been told that the works of Jesus and the spirit were for the disciples, or were for that specific era because God wanted to reveal himself to His chosen people. Or we’re bored. We just don’t believe we could do anything that’s written in the bible, and probably wouldn’t want to, because it would be too hard, or embarrassing, or humiliating.
Well I’m here to tell you that’s just not the case. God has chosen us, all of us to be His co-labourers, to partake in His harvest with Him, to eat at His table and do what He does. There is nothing that He did that is off limits to us. The even better news is there’s nothing Hard about it, because He’s already done it.
“It is Finished” remember?
Well if it really is finished, why are we still here, people still unsaved and Jesus no where to be seen? Doesn’t really seem like it’s finished does it?
Yet it is. Jesus has made the way, in the spirit He’s healed all the sick, provided an abundance for us, cast out all the demons, set all the captives free, and then told us to go and make disciples of all nations. He spent three years of His life showing us how to do, so that we had an instruction manual, and then even gave us His spirit so we could do what He did.
Christianity isn’t an exclusive club, anyone is welcome, everyone is invited, but not everyone knows. Because very few are out there handing out invites. I think it’s time we equipped and empowered ourselves in God’s word, and help our brothers and sisters, diligently working the fields every day. And here are a couple of useful revelations I have received on how we can be a bit more effective in our work.
Matthew 28:19 – Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
We’re all chosen. Not some of us, not just those gifted in evangelism, and public speaking, but everyone. Notice how Jesus wasn’t very specific when He uttered this phrase? That was for a reason. He was speaking so that when you read that, you could see that He was speaking that to you. There’s no room for excuses in that statement. No wiggle room. Our orders are in plain black and white.
Now I’m not saying you have to get on your milk crate and declare his works on every street corner. In fact Jesus showed us a very effective way of getting out and proclaiming the word.
Matthew 4:23-25 From there He went all over Galilee. He used synagogues for meeting places & taught people the truth of God. God’s kingdom was His theme. That beginning right now they were under God’s government, A good government! He also healed people of their diseases & of the bad effects of their bad life. Word got around the entire province of Syria. People bought anybody with an ailment, whether mental, emotional or physical. Jesus healed them one and all.
Jesus met people where they were, and taught them with what they knew. He went to the synagogues and used scripture from the Torah to make his points. If you were going to synagogue, you knew the Torah. That’s where Jesus met them. He often went to homes and ministered one on one. We can learn something from that. Instead of praying for people to come across your path. Go to the people you know and meet them where they are. Share with them the great things of God for the situations they are encountering in their own lives. There is a door in everyone’s life. Jesus turned no one away!
Another important thing to take out of that, is that Jesus will validate what you say. Usually with a demonstration of power. Picture this, if I were to approach you while you were on crutches and had shared with you all night how great Jesus is. If you weren’t a believer, you’d probably get sick of hearing me speak about it. But if I were to say to you, “He loves you so much, He wants to see you healed.” I can guarantee your interest would be piked. You’d either be keen on being healed or at least a bit skeptical. Especially if I said I could prove it.
Now if you were to get healed, what would that suggest about everything I had said to you all night. It would suggest that Jesus is in fact very real. And loves you immensely.
Not only did Jesus use this everywhere He went, but word of His healings spread. Yeah, you might be saying, but that was Jesus. Well funnily enough this was the exact same model the disciples used. Why? Because it worked!
Acts 8:3-8 …Philip proclaimed the Message of the Messiah. When the people heard what he had to say and saw the miracles, the clear signs of God’s action, they hung on his every word.
Peter and John were no different. In Acts 4 Peter and John heal a cripple, who proceeds to skip through the streets as Peter and John declare the word of Jesus. That action saw 5000 people saved in one day.
If you understand, just what is possible [the only way to learn is to read the word!] you will see that as you step out God will validate what you say! I’ve seen it happen in my own life. I know it can happen in yours. God does ALL the hard work. You just have to take a step.
So come and join us in the fields!
