One Grateful
Near the border of the provinces of Galilee and Samaria, Jesu encounter ten lepers. From a distance they called out to Him. “Jesus, Master, have pity on us!”
He called out to them, “Go show yourselves to the priests” This was a regulation from the Law of Moses requiring those healed of any impurity to be examined by the priest before being pronounced well.
The ten were cured as they went om their way. One of them, seeing that he was healed, ran back to Jesus, praising God loudly. He threw himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him.
Jesus asked, “were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine?” {Luke 17 Verse 11 to 18}. The one grateful leper was a Samaritan—people despised by the Jews.
If the nine lepers were Jews, which the story implies, how ironic that the only one to thank was a Samaritan! In one of His parables, Jesus had spoken of a fictional Samaritan who took pity on a Jewish traveler on the road, showing kindness to him when no one else did.
In the story of the lepers, here was a Samaritan who showed a faith that Jesus commended.
Gratitude for being healed by The Lord leads to thankfulness.
Gratitude in extending help to others leads to thankfulness for what The Lord has done for us.
God Bless.
