Seasons of the soul
As we come into the Christmas season, many of us take some time out of our full lives to reflect on the year past and to anticipate the year to come.
Ecclesiastes 3:1-8,11a “”to everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven. A time to be born and a time to die. A time to plant and time to pluck what is planted. A time to keep and a time to throw away; a time to keep silence and a time to speak; v.11 “He has made everything beautiful in its time…..He has put eternity in their hearts.”
There is a season, an appointed time for everything, an appointed rhythm, appointed transitions and appointed victories. Verse 11 says God will cause each appointed season we go through to transition in His timing into something beautiful – He has put eternity in our hearts. Romans 8:28 also encourages us of this “And we know all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose”.
Whatever the season of our soul, our Lord and Friend has a purpose. To know Him. To know Him intimately. To see His character; His faithfulness; His goodness in every season of our lives.
“The seasons of our soul are where we learn to see God as He really is, His correct reputation and the glory of His goodness. They are periods of time in which God allows us to experience Him in unique ways.” From God in Every Season by Elizabeth Enlow.
“I once was young but now I am old”, and as I reflect back over the seasons of my life, I can honestly say that the hard times have been worth it, because the Lord has always strengthened me, He has never left me or forsaken me and “through it all, I’ve learned to trust Him” more and more. I am still learning to ‘cast all my cares on Him” and to “learn the unforced rhythms of grace” for my life. What a Friend we have in Jesus.
I pray that in this season, wherever season your soul is in, you will be encouraged by Philippians 1:6 “I am sure of this, that He who started a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”
Shalom
