From The Heart

Beyond Leisure – Rest

I read a book many years ago, and one of the chapters was about rest beyond leisure. The challenge has stayed with me, and I was thinking on it as I began writing for this week.

The concept was that in the midst of our busy lives, we have different forms of leisure activities, hobbies and holidays and other things to occupy us on our time off, but while these things are good, the question was, do these things give us rest or simply bring a distraction.

Exodus 33:14 “My Presence will go with you, and I will give your rest.’” God said this to Moses when Moses had brought the Israelites out of bondage and slavery to the Egyptians, as they were going through the wilderness on the way to the promised land.

Hebrews 4 verses 9 and 10 says “There remains therefore a rest for the people of God. For he who has entered His (God’s) rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His”

Our Lord and Friend Jesus Christ has completed the work of redemption on the cross, so now we can abide in the rest of that finished work. We are God’s masterpiece; created anew in Christ Jesus so we can do the good things He planned for us long ago. Ephesians 2:10

So how do we walk in this wonderful rest of God. By faith in Him. Trusting His word. Hearing His voice and relying on His character. Getting to know Him daily.

God wants us to walk and live out of resting in Him. He loves us more than we can comprehend.

My prayer for you is from Ephesians 3 verse 18 and 19 “And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep His love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.”

God Bless
