From The heart

Thoughts – Speculations – Lofty Things

Recently while on holiday, I had the opportunity to read some books. One such book was teaching on the war in the spirit realm. The comments on scriptures in 2 Corinthians Chapter 10 verses 3 to 7 were something that caught my attention, and I wanted to share with you.

Most of us are familiar with Ephesians chapter 6 verse 12 where Apostle Paul tells us we are not fighting against flesh and blood enemies (people) but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against evil spirits in the heavenly places. 2 Corinthians 2:11 Paul says “not to let the enemy outsmart us but be familiar with his evil schemes/devices.”

2 Corinthians 10:3-4 gives us understanding of his schemes, also giving us confidence that God’s weapons are able to knock down strongholds (fortresses) of human reasoning and destroy false arguments. The living bible says we can “capture rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ”.

Thoughts – Ephesians 6 verse 16 says common ways the enemy attacks us is by giving us thoughts that are contrary to our new nature – describing these thoughts as ‘flaming arrows’.

Speculations – these are often characterized by “what if” questions, which, if left unchecked, can plague our souls with doubts, fears and depression.

Lofty things – are philosophies that make us feel like the enemy is big and powerful and God is small and powerless in our lives. For example, expressions like “well, I guess all we can do now is pray” are the fruit of a ‘lofty things’ mentality. These can cause us to feel overwhelmed by our circumstances.

Philippians 1:28 “Don’t be intimidated in any way by your enemies. This will be a sign to them that they are going to be destroyed, but that you are going to be saved, even by God Himself”. An important key :-recognize thoughts that are not our own and reject all ownership of them.

Let’s KNOW: We are new creatures in Christ – the old has passed away – all things have become new. We have the mind of Christ, and hold the thoughts, feelings and purposes of His heart. No weapon formed against us shall prosper. The weapon may form – but the Word of God says it shall NOT prosper. God is able to make all things work together for our good. Holy Spirit is our Helper! – wanting to lead us. Let’s lean in and listen to Him.

Rich blessings.
