From The Heart

A Sound Mind

As we navigate through the various seasons of our lives, there are always challenges and blessings happening at the same time.

The Lord has promised us in His Word that He ‘has not given us a spirit of fear but of power, love and a SOUND MIND’. 2 Timothy 1:7.

Philippians 4:6-7 tells us that we are to ‘be anxious for nothing, but in everything, by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let our requests be known to God. And the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard (mount garrison) over our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus’.

I love that word ‘IN’. One well known speaker says that Father God has placed us in the safest place when we accept Christ Jesus as our Saviour and Lord. We are ‘IN’ Him. We are surrounded, enveloped in His Presence.

What does this peace of God look like that guards our heart and MINDS? I have heard it described like this. Imagine your heart and mind are like the living rooms of your soul. Now see the Peace of God guarding them. If anything comes to disturb your heart and mind that bring anxiety or doubts or fears, expect Peace to be like a security guard that pushes back and boots them out of your space.

Isaiah 26:3 “You will guard him and keep him in perfect and constant peace whose mind (both its inclination and its character) is stayed on You, because he commits himself to You, leans on You, and hopes confidently in You”. Our part to play in this, is to commit ourselves to Him, to lean on and hope confidently in Him – trusting His character, His wisdom and His power to keep us always, in every circumstance.

Verse 8 in the Amplified Bible goes on: ‘For the rest, brethren, whatever is worthy of reverence and is honorable and seemly, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely and lovable, whatever is kind and winsome and gracious, if there is any virtue and excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think on and weigh and take account of these things (fix your mind on them).

1 Timothy 6:12 exhorts is to “fight the good fight of the faith”….one way we fight is to FIX our minds on God’s promises. He is faithful Who has promised.

God’s abundant blessings. Kath
