Faith In Action ‘To Savor Life’

There are a lot of people who are prepared to tell us, that Our Lord and Our Friend wants to suppress or deny our instincts for life or joy or fun.

We can read in His Word. that these people are completely wrong, let take a reference from the Book of Ecclesiastes. In Ecclesiastes 12 verse 1: insists that the true way to ‘remember’ or honor our Creator  is to savor the life He has given us.

This is not a recommendation, for self-indulgence, or recklessness, for one of the underlining things for  this is, Fear God and obey His commandments. as long as we live within the guidelines of Our Lord and Our Friend’s way, He prefers us to live relaxed rather tan anxious lives.

But as for wealth, there are two extremes today about the connection between God and wealth. One is that wealth and money are inherently evil and therefore God opposes them. The other is that God is just waiting to shower wealth on those who satisfy certain expectations that He has.

Deuteronomy 8 verse 18: might clear up both these extremes. On one hand, it show that ultimately wealth is a gift of God, therefore it can not be evil. On the other hand it shows that God does not just throw money at us. God’s Word also show the importance of our responsibility in obtaining wealth. God did not give them wealth directly so much as He gives us the ability to work and develop the resources so we can prosper.

So wealth really is not the be all and end all of our abundant life in Christ, and perhaps if we make it that, it can be a weakness.

2 Corinthians 12 verse 9: the position we should have in everything, to achieve an abundant life is;

“But He {Christ Jesus, Our Lord and Our Friend} said to me, ‘My Grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness’. Therefore, I will gladly boast all the more about my weakness, so that Christ power may reside in me”.

Our Lord and Our Friend, does not want us to suppress our instincts for life, or joy or fun. Our abundance should not be based on wealth. Our abundance should be based on God’s Grace, because His Grace is our sufficiency, from which our abundant life comes.

Even in our weaknesses, God’s Grace should be our sufficiency for an abundant life. Whether we have much or little, God’s Grace is still our sufficiency for an abundant life.

God Bless.
