Matthew 25 verse 7:
“Then all the virgins got up and trimmed their lamps.”
Virgins speak of purity, purity before God. There maybe many things we have done in life, that would make us not pure before Our Lord and Our Friend.
Romans 3 verse 23: Tells us: “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
In the same chapter, verse 26 tells us, ‘God declare righteous the one who has faith in Jesus.’
So you see the virgins were not those who had never sinned, but those who had repented and accepted Christ Jesus, and had been made righteous before God again.
Our Lord and Our Friend also knows, that though we are apart of His Kingdom, we walk through a fallen world, and even though we are being transformed by The Holy Spirit, it is still possible for us to fall short into sin.
1 John 1 verse 9: “If we confess our sins {wrong-doings against God}, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
That verse I believe is keeping our lamps trimmed. The wise virgins those who have been made righteous with God, through acceptance and repentance of what Our Lord and Our Friend did on the cross, constantly trimmed their lamps, {their light shinning in the darkness of the world}, by having honesty before Him. Constantly asking Him to cleanse them afresh of any wrong-doing, when some of the darkness of the world, might have cause them to shine not as bright.
The foolish ones, were those who had a half-hearted relationship with Our Lord and Our Friend, and never took much time with Him, and even to ask Him to Cleanse them afresh from wrong-doings they may have fallen into because of their half-hearted relationship.
The Holy Spirit is our helper, not our director in life, even though we have been made New Creations in Christ Jesus, we still have freedom of choice. It is really a matter of keeping our light before the world trimmed, with honesty before Him.
God Bless
