We have a category called ‘People Of Faith’, but the Bible is full of wonderful stories, not everybody is remember for their faith in God. There are some very ruthless people also mentioned, so we have started a new category, ‘People Of The Bible Known By Infamy’. We will start our time to time category with Caiaphas.

Caiaphas was the High Priest of Israel from A.D. 18 to 36. He was High priest during the life and ministry of Jesus. As official head of the Jewish state, He presided over the Sanhedran, it’s highest court. Next to the Roman governor, he was the most powerful man in Judea, and was responsible to the Romans for conduct and order.

The position of High priest afforded him vast authority but little job security. He High priest served at Romes pleasure. The fact that Caiaphas kept his job for 18 years points to his uncommon political understanding. Some have suggested because of his corrupt alliance with Rome.

When Jesus drew large crowds and performed many astounding miracles, especially His raising of Lazarus from the dead, Caiaphas decided that He would have to be done away with.

Caiaphas was surprised when the movement that he though has been killed came roaring back to life. The Apostle began preaching the gospel in Jerusalem and all over the Roman empire with wonderful success.

Caiaphas name means: Depression. He was the son-in-law of Annas, also a High priest, and was also a Sadducee.

With a name meaning depression, no wonder he was sad u see.

Caiaphas main interest in life was maintaining the political and religious status quo, but that showed he lacked discernment, to the Truth about Jesus.

Caiaphas will be remembered in Christian Infamy, for his part in history, at the time Our Lord of Glory, walked the earth.Caiaphas can be read about in a few places in the New Testament, we will leave you with one, Matthew 57 to 67:

God Bless
