Speak Healing Words

This morning in Proverbs 15, a verse caught my eye “when you speak healing words, you offer others fruit from the tree of life.” (Verse 4 The Passion Translation.) What a beautiful picture. Encouragement is such a valuable gift. Someone once said that ‘encouragement is like verbal sunshine”.

Recently I received an email from a friend, encouraging me with a word about having courage! It was what I needed to hear. Isaiah 50:4 “The Lord God has given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him that is weary.” Our Father God is so faithful! He knows exactly what we need to hear. We are His hands and feet; His mouthpiece in the world today. Let’s be faithful to share His love and mercy and goodness wherever we can.

I was pondering the words ‘fruit from the tree of life.” As born-again believers, we have the amazing Holy Spirit indwelling our lives, and His fruit, the nourishment and power of His Presence is available to us and to those we choose to share with.

In the natural, delicious fruit like watermelon or a ripe peach can be refreshing and nourishing to our bodies. The aroma is also pleasant and can delight our souls. In the spiritual, things like peace and joy and kindness, the fruit of the Holy Spirit, can bring encouragement to one who may be weary, disheartened or feeling hopeless.

May you be encouraged this week by our Lord and Friend and allow His encouragement to flow through you ‘as fruit from the tree of life.”
