The Great Physician
In the Gospel of Matthew Chapter 9:9-12, we see Jesus calls Matthew, a tax collector to “Follow Me”. Matthew arose and followed Him. Verse 10 tells us Jesus was at the house, eating with tax collectors, sinners, His disciples and the Pharisees. The Pharisees said to the disciples “Why does your Master eat with tax collectors and sinners”.
V12. When Jesus heard that, He said to them “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. But go and learn what this means: ’I desire mercy and not sacrifice’. For I did not come to call the righteous , but sinners to repentance.”
Our Lord and Friend came to bring us mercy. He is the Great Physician. I also love that the Scriptures tell us that “mercy triumphs over judgement”. I know I always need mercy in my life and I’m so grateful that we can come to the ‘throne of Grace’ to find mercy and grace to help in time of need.
As we receive, so we then can freely give. Have you received His mercy today? Our Lord and Friend wants to heal the broken hearted, bind up our wounds, set the captives free.
He invites us “come to Me if you are loaded with burdens and I will show you how to walk in the unforced rhythms of grace.” He daily bears our burdens. We just need to come to Him.
Shalom
