Heart Issues
“Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks”
“Guard your heart with all diligence, for from it flow the issues of life”.
A description of the heart is = the locus of physical and spiritual being, representing the ‘central wisdom of feeling as opposed to the head wisdom of reason’. It is compassion and understanding, life-giving and complex. It is the symbol of love; the seat of emotions; synonymous with affection.
I read a book called The Voice of the Heart – a call to full living. In it, the author talks about the spiritual discipline of listening to our hearts and to the call of God that echoes in our emotions.
Our hearts are complex and each heart holds stored memories and experiences which affect the way we respond to circumstances and situations that arise in our day to day living.
Psalm 33:15 NKJV “He fashions their hearts individually”. I have always loved this verse. To me it says that God is always aware of me, He understands the way I take and He is well able to make all things work together for good. When I don’t understand why I am the way I am, He does and I can trust Him (my Lord and Friend), the good Shepherd to lead me through the valley of the shadow of death and bring me to green pastures and still waters. He is the Prince of Peace. He calls me to ‘rest in His love’.
Zephaniah 3:17 “The Lord in your midst, the Mighty One will save, He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love (He will renew you in His love), He will rejoice over you with singing”.
So beloved, if you are struggling with emotions you don’t understand, may you remember the verse above, and allow our precious Mighty Savior to quiet you in His love as He rejoices over you with singing.”
