Unless something is complicated and near impossible to work out, we humans believe nothing can be found in it. The easier something is, the less worth it seems to have. Maybe it’s part of how we’ve been bought up. Maybe it helps us get out of bed in the morning, put on our heavy steel armor, strap our shield to our arm and grasp the sword that will aid us cutting through the difficulties of the day and see us safely back to bed at night.
Yet it seems the further we are knotted the harder we fight, only to be knotted even further. I remember when things were simple and easy, when I still felt great pride and self worth upon the completion of an easy task. And so too does this unknown writer…
“The simple things in life are the greatest.”
Sadly this overcomplication has skewered our perception on life, and often how simple it can be. Especially in most cases, the most simple, inbuilt emotion, unique to we Human Beings… Love.
It appears that this day and age, if we’re not fretting over entering a relationship, staying in a relationship, leaving a relationship, yearning for a relationship, destroying our relationships, having multiple relationships; Flirting with strangers, decoding whether strangers were flirting with you, or one of the other myriad of bad romantic comedy plotlines, we haven’t and can’t love.
But that’s not the way it’s meant to be. Today my eye’s crossed a verse that everyone can quote, whether they be believers or not, and I was refreshed by the stunning simplicity, and measure of love as seen from the very eyes of the one who created it and us. God.
John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that whoever believes in him should have everlasting life.”
Have you ever just read that verse and marvelled at how amazingly nice that is?
Well imagine how much nicer it becomes when you place your own name in it….
“For God so loved ________, that he gave his only begotten son, that ________ believes in him should have everlasting life.”
That is the picture of Love I like. The only condition it asks for is belief. And really as just another human being walking this earth isn’t that all I’m really looking for, someone to believe in me, and someone for me to believe in, wholehearted and unflinchingly?
Even when I’m all alone, if I was the only person that ever existed, God believed in me so much that he sacrificed his son so that I may have the chance to believe in him and love him for eternity.
At the end of the day it is the confession of who Jesus is and the confession of what he has done for you that is the greatest picture of love.
So relax, love is easy, because Jesus loves you very mu
