The reality of the world turned upside down. Luke 22 verse 24 and 25: [Message Bible]: “within minutes they were bickering over who of them would end up the greatest. But Jesus intervened: ‘ Kings like to throw their weight around and people in authority like to give themselves fancy titles. It’s not going to be that way with you. Let the senior among you become like a junior, let the leader act the part of the servant’.”
Jesus’ response is both to help us to understand our role as servants and also to set the record straight. Instead of fighting for first position, He calls us to humble ourselves to the lowest rank. He challenges all leaders to become like servants. He turns people’s ways and thoughts on its head. He does it in a way that instead of calling out to put the focus on us, He reminds us it is all about Him.
We should all take thought of what Jesus said to the disciples and remember any ministry we participate in or position we may achieve is possible only through Jesus Himself.
We are entitled to, and owed, nothing. How easily we can forget this and take for granted the blessed freedoms for which He gave His life. Our Lord and Our Friend is the really the most authentically entitled person who ever has or ever will walk on this earth, set it all aside so that He could help each of us find our way home to The Father.
We deserve nothing, we only deserve nothing more than an eternity without Jesus. Entitlement syndrome is self centered and is focused on getting., while Jesus centered is focused on giving.
Jesus said if we want to follow Him, we must take up our cross and follow Him Matthew 16 verse 24;
Our calling is never about us, it is always about Him.
