A lot of Christians have the mistaken idea that obedience to God’s will give us smooth sailing. John 16 verse 33:

“I have told you these things so that in Me you may have peace. You will have suffering in this world. Be courageous! I have conquered the world”.

Well the truth is, Jesus promised that His followers would experience ‘trial and sorrows’. Speaking from personal experience, when we find ourselves in a storm because we have obeyed and followed the Lord, we must remember that He brought us here, and He can care for us.

An example we can take comes from Matthew 14 verses 22 to 31: The story of Jesus walking on water. The disciples had just watch Jesus miraculously feed the 5000. Immediately after this, Jesus insisted that His disciples get back into the boat, while He sent the people home.

John 6 verses 14 and 15: records why Jesus wanted to get everybody away quickly, the crowd wanted to make Jesus king. The Lord knew their motives were not spiritual and there purpose were out of God’s will. We can never really make Him king, before we make Him Our Lord.

Jesus told the disciples to get into a boat and go, only to be on that journey, to be confronted by a storm. Would you believe it, Jesus had sent His disciples into a storm. Seeing the miraculous, to be in the midst of a storm.

How easy just like the disciples, we forget the miraculous we have witnessed, when the storms of our lives come around. Even worse the storm was in the darkest time at night. Huddled in the boat, in what the disciples must have though, was one of the worst times of their lives, Jesus comes to them miraculously.

As we read our Bibles, we discover storms of two kinds, storms of correction, when God disciplines us, and storms of perfection, when God helps us grow. When we find ourselves in a storm because of our following after Him, we must remember that he brought us there, and in any circumstances of life He can take care of us.

He needs to be accepted as Lord, of our lives first, so we can crown Him King as we understand more about Him. Transformation starts, when the concept of the kingdom of this world, grow strangely dim, in the Majestic presence He wants, He wants our lives to live in.

Storms may come, but just as the disciples discovered, He is standing in the midst, only to willing to help us.
