DIRECTIONS WITH DEUTERONOMY
WANDERINGS IN THE DESERT
‘Then we turned back and set out toward the desert along the route to the red sea as the Lord had directed me. For a long time we made our way around the hill country of Seir.’
Isaiah 51 verse 11:
‘The ransomed of the Lord will return and come to Zion with singing, crowned with unending joy. Joy and gladness will overtake them and sorrow and sighing will flee”.
They will enter with singing, everlasting joy will crown their heads, Gladness and joy will crown their heads.’
Words, of the wandering, with promises as directed by the Lord, a contrast indeed and yet so it is with choices in life of when to accept and when to change direction. There are some things we can’t change and must leave alone. With circumstances we also are unable to alter we need knowledge to know when to accept God’s wisdom with courage. We cannot just wander through life without direction, without structure or guidance. God has his plans for us but not if we are going around the bushes in circles of indifference or uncaring attitudes.
In Deuteronomy 1 verses 44 and 45: it is said, “The Amorites who lived in those hills came out and chased you like a swarm of bees…….You came back and wept before the lord but he paid no attention to your weeping and turned a deaf ear”.
The people wavered for a so many years and had to learn to cope as we do often today. Only for them, it took thirty-eight years for that generation to end. But the Lord directed his intentions in a specific way to overcome the opposing tribes, men, women and children. No survivors were left. Verse 37 says,
“In accordance with the Lord God’s command, you did not encroach on any of the land of the Ammonites”.
This was a command to develop changes for the future, yet, in Isaiah Chapter 51 from verse 14:
our comforter, tells us that the cowering prisoners ‘will be set free, not die in their dungeon or lack bread, for I am the Lord your God!’
The ultimate conclusion in life is that God the almighty ‘puts my words in your mouth and covers you with the shadow of his hand and set the heavens in ’place’ who laid the foundations of the earth.’ God is the Almighty comforter, director of all life, a contractor of our circumstances and life choices and the portrayer of loving guidance. He will not fail you!
