Attitudes: The dictionary tells us it means: a physical or metal position: A mind position, a position our thoughts come from, and sometimes that position is hard to change, even if Our Lord and Our Friend is on our case to change them.
When we look at the story of Jonah, from the Book in the Old Testament by the same name, we see. Jonah had the wrong attitude, and it was towards God. Jonah’s wrong attitude towards God’s will, stemmed from a feeling that The Lord was asking him to do something impossible. But in God’s Will, for our lives, ‘Nothing will be impossible’. Luke 1 verse 37:
“For nothing will be impossible with God”.
That is different from ‘Nothing is impossible to God, but this particular scripture says, “Nothing will be impossible with God”. This is speaking about being in God’s will. God’s will for our lives. Jeremiah 29 verse 11:
God told Jonah to o to a city of Jonah perceived enemy, to give that city a chance to repent. God’s Will for our lives gives us opportunities, opportunities to improve our lives, in every way. Out attitudes tell us somethings are too hard and we can not be bothered, but the opportunity to be apart of God’s Will for our lives, also sometimes needs a change of attitude.
I God’s Will for our lives, we are not alone, we are never alone after we accept Him, as Our Lord, Our Redeemer and Our Friend. When He asks us to do something, we should not only take hold of the task, but take hold of the Promise, “ For WITH God nothing will be impossible”.
We might be comfortable and secure in our attitudes, but maybe Our Lord and Our Friend is calling us to reach out to people, we don’t have much time for.
Jonah had a wrong attitude towards the Gentiles. Instead of wanting to help them find the True and Living God, he wanted to abandon them to their darkness and spiritual death. He not only hated their sin, he also hated the sinners.
The attitude God wants us to have in our lives, is that He wants us to give His Love, for the people around us, who don’t believe in Him, no matter how hateful or vile they may be.
New Birth, we have In Christ, also means to summit to a new attitude, In Him.
