Knowing Our Lord And Our Friend

words

The Awesomeness of God. Like society in general we seem to lost the art of respect. As believers have we lost the art of respect for God? As believers have we lost the sense of immanence of God. As believers we know that God is both transcendent and immanent.

Big words, but  have an awesome meaning, meaning that God is far above us and also near us. God is both greater than the universe and nearer than breathing.

Which leads me to a song, we used to sing during my Children’s Church superintendent’s days, which I now sing with my  wife, as we go through her illness stage: “My God is  so big, so strong and so mighty, there is nothing my God wouldn’t do for you.” That might seem like a very basic song, but our God is so big, and when, we received Him into our lives, we entered into His Family.

God becomes both transcendent and immanent. Colossians is a good book from the New Testament, to use as an example. The Colossians saw God as a distant being, regarded as almost beyond reach. So they filled the gap, with beliefs in angels and spirits, believing it was necessary to use these to communicate with God.

Most people view God like that somewhere high above, but if we only have that view, we are in danger of missing out on an appreciation of His Gracious Presence with us.

The only way we can know both the Transcendent and the Immanence of God is to receive His Son Christ Jesus.    John 1 verse 12, tells us,

“But to all who did receive Him, He gave them the right to be children of God, to those who believed in His Name.”

This acceptance is not just of a God, who lives far above, but a Creator God, who Loves us, and wants to commune and be with us. An Awesome God, who wants to be Our Lord, Our Savor, Our Redeemer and Our Friend.

Our God is so big, so strong and so mighty, but He also wants to dwell in and through our lives.

God Bless.
