The New For The Old

newand old

2 Corinthians 5 verse 17: “Therefore if anyone is in Christ , there is a new creation; old things have passed away and look new things have come”.

Then we look at Colossians 3 verse 1 to 14: Paul tells us, that being a Christian must result in a changed life. If Christ is Head of all things, and if He has risen from the dead for us, this has direst consequence for the way we live.

The putting off and putting on description that Paul uses in Colossians is probably a reminder of baptism, when Christians shed their old clothes and put on white garments. Life Paul is saying must be a daily baptism, and a daily dying and rising again.

Paul is quite insistent about putting off, why? The answer is given to us in verse 10:

“And put on the new man {or woman}, who is being renewed in knowledge according to the image of his {or her} creator.

The image of God in His creation, was spoiled though our fall into sin, has now been resorted through Christ Jesus. We all being now a new creation in Christ Jesus, it is inconceivable that as Kingdom People, we could live as we did before we accepted Christ Jesus, as Our Lord, Our redeemer and Our King.

We have become a new creation, with Christ Jesus as the center. Jesus is the eternal power Who holds us from falling apart. Then we can understand why we can say; Galatians 2 verse 20:

“And I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the flesh, I live by faith in The son of God, Who loved me and gave Himself for me”.

The ‘putting off’ and ‘the putting on’, should come part of our daily devotion to Our Lord and Our Friend, to be ever clean, so we can be used by Him. Not so we can say we are better than others, but so we can let the light of Christ shine through us, so they may also know, the wonders of God’s Grace and Mercy to any ‘whosoever’.

God Bless.
