Faith In Action ‘Running The Race’

When I  was at high school many, many, years ago, I remembered a boy in the senior class, wrote an essay which won a state award. The essay’s title, stuck in my head, “The Loneliness of Long Distance Runner”.

Hebrews 12 verse 1; Tells us: “therefore since we also have such a large cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us lay aside every weight and sin that so easily ensnares us, and run with endurance the race that lies before us”.

We are each called to run our own race, but not a competitive race, like in the essay. Our race includes keeping our eyes on Our Lord and Our Friend.

Hebrews 12 verse 2: “keeping our eyes on Jesus, the source and perfecter of our faith, Who for the joy that lay before Him endured a cross and despised the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of God’s throne”

During our race we are to run from things, that will not only impair us, but things that would take our eyes off, the source and protector of our faith Our Lord and Our Friend.

1 Timothy 6 verse 11: “Now man {or woman} of God, run from these things; but pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, endurance and gentleness”.

Our race is the ‘Call to Endurance’, endurance requires something, of us.

Endurance requires training in His Word.

Endurance requires getting to Know Him, Who made a way for us, and our eternal destiny is in Him.

Endurance can face the challenges of life, and there will be many. We don’t just run down easy street. We run with purpose, keeping our faith in the One Who first loved us. Hebrews 13 verse 5 tells us: “He will never leave or forsake us”.

Ecclesiastes 9 verse 11: “Again I saw under the sun that the race is not to the swift, or the battle to the strong, or bread to the wise, or riches to the discerning, or favor to the skillful; rather, time and chance happen to all of them”.

But with our enduring ‘focus’ on Him, it really doesn’t matter what comes our way, because of our Knowing, He is The Source and Faith, He is our ever present help in time of need.

The endurance that comes from knowing and loving Him, allows us to take on anything and everything that comes our way.

God Bless.
