This first ‘Weekend Inspiration’, for the New Year comes from Monica, who along with Micheal her husband lead the worship at our dear friends Pastor Tony and Helen church. It was such an uplifting article, we are using it as our ‘Weekend Inspiration, to start the year with, be blessed by the article.
’NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS – WAR AGAINST THE FLESH
Each year, I come up with all of these wonderful ideas of what I am going to stop doing or start doing for my annual New Year’s Resolution. The list hasn’t changed much over the years, which is an indication that neither have I.
This causes an endless cycle of frustration as the list never seems to get crossed off.
I had a good and true look at myself to see why I keep stumbling in this area, and WHAMMO!!!, I totally lack in self-discipline. I have discovered that I don’t like to be uncomfortable. That as unhappy as I am with the habits or patterns that I have, the very thought of stopping these nasty things, causes me great stress.
Why. Because I don’t like being “OUT OF MY COMFORT ZONE”.
Many years ago, before I became a Christian, I had developed many, many, many bad habits that are very much destructive for my health. Many of which, I am sad to say are still with me today.
But I want to walk in freedom. I want my vessel (body) to reflect my walk with God. Not just my spirit.
So off to God I go, in prayer, looking for direction and advice. I was lead to the Word of God. I know what’s in there, I don’t want to look. I know what it is going to say.
It is going to say “SUCK IT UP PRINCESS/ PRINCE”. Lol. (Slang Saying in Australia. Interpreted as “TOUGHEN UP”
And that, it did indeed.
Before I go any further, I would like to add, that God’s Word is not here to make any of us feel like a failure. Yes we all fall trip over the deficiency bump in the road every now and then. That does not mean that God will hunt you down and strike you with big bolt of lightning as I was lead to believe when I was a young child. In fact, it is quite the opposite.
Yes, I too have heard that there are a selected few who are miraculously set free from addictions etc without any challenging withdrawals. These are few and far between. be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.
And call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify me.”
But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires. There are many, many scriptures available to us to guide us during our journey to freedom. If we have a look at the ones above, there are some valuable tools for us to follow.
• If we focus on the things of God, I will not be focusing on what my body is craving.
• Being a slave to anything will hold me back from my full potential in Christ.
• Addiction and bad lifestyle choices are not new. Neither are withdrawals or temptations. We aren’t the first to quit something and we wont be the last either. Lol.
• God will not puts us through more that what we can cope with, even if you think it impossible or too hard, God knows our limits better than we do. So just hold on.
• Call on God in times of Trouble.
• Don’t give in.WE CAN DO IT! YES WE CAN!
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.
I would like to encourage you to read Romans 8 as well. As it is a long chapter, I will leave it up to you to read it rather than put it in this blog as it has 38 verses. Each one of these verses, is pure gold in the area of encouragement in the love that God has for us. Take time to not just read it, but take it all in to your mind and spirit. Understand, that you are loved by a God who wants nothing but the best for you.
