Why do we as Christians allow, and why do people in general spend so much time watching other people, watching television shows and movies, they are both written by script writers, to a script and a story, they want to influence our lives with. Do we look before we watch to see who wrote the story, or what is the point of the message they are trying to get across.
There are also what people call reality show, where we watch people doing and living. These shows are also scripted, not to highlight the realities of life, but for ratings to get more people to watch,
There are fine movies, that tell wonderful stories of faith and life, but still most have been modified, in order to make them more popular to watch.
People have seemed to lost the art of communication, with other people without the help of electronic media. They sit down for hours, in front of a screen to be entertained.
There is nothing wrong with being entertained by, good and worthy shows and movies, we can learn a lot from documentaries to, but we must use our discernment more. There is an old saying, ‘All that glitters is not gold’,so all that we let ourselves watch, doesn’t add a bit of nourishment, to the lives Our Lord and Our Friend has called us to live.
John 10 verse 10: Our Lord and Our Friend tells us; “I have come that they may have life and have it in abundance”.
Most of the things we allow ourselves to watch, has none of His real life and abundance in them. Most people of this age have become, watchers instead of doers, even can be said of Christians.
Matthew 9 verse 37 and 38:
V37:“Then He said to His disciples, ‘The harvest is abundant, but the workers are few’.”
V38: “Therefore, pray to the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into the harvest”.
We are called to serve, serve the King of Kings, but the world is trying to trick us into being watchers instead of doers.
Sure we do need our time of rest, and Matthew 11 verse 28:
“Come to me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest”.
Our life is in Him Acts 17 verse 28:
“For In Him we live and move and exist, as even some of your own poets have said, ‘we are also His offspring”.
Entertainment like anything, can be good, but when it becomes something, that take our eyes off the high calling He has for our lives, we let ourselves down, and our commitment to Him.
