The book of Psalms is the largest collection of ancient lyrical poetry in existence.

as part of the Bible, this of course is religious, it expresses the emotions of believers.

God has  created us with emotions and God wants us to use all of our emotions good or bad, they are not to be suppressed. Our emotions are stirred by thought of God and developments in our life of faith.

The feelings of joy, pain, fear, security, triumph, tragedy, confidence, doubt, hope, despair, excitement, anger are to be expressed honestly and boldly.

The readers are sometimes taken back, by blunt and powerful words  that are used throughout the Psalms.

Story of life and death situations, attacks by cruel and ruthless foes, betrayed by friends, or natural dangers and disasters in their journey through life.

Life is a daily challenge but we should be convinced that the Lord reigns over our affairs of life, and rejoice that the Law of God is our guide.

Psalms you could say u=is a book of dramas, whenever the Lord demonstrates His Sovereignty by direct action for them, the people would praise Him.

When God didn’t seem to be there {He always is} they lamented over their situations and prayed more earnestly to Him.

In every case and story through Psalms the people reaffirmed their hope in His loyal love and committed to serving Him more.

this is why the collective works of Psalms became the prayer and hymn book of the temple.

Psalm 95 verse 1

Come let us sing for joy to the Lord, let us shout aloud to the Rock of our Salvation.

No doubt Psalms is the best loved book in the old testament. It is a wonderful book of treasured Christian  experiences. Start reading it from wherever you will and you will find treasure.

Evey Psalm is a direst expression of the soul’s consciousness of God.

Hold the bible in your hand and turn to the middle of the book. Most often you will open at Psalms. Psalms is the centre and are the centre also in human experiences.

The book is used by Hebrews and Christians alike even i our day. The Psalms were written for the heart of worship God out under open heavens or in a pit of despair, or in a hidden place.

When you find yourself in deep need, you can always find a Psalm that expresses your inmost feeling. There is a psalm for every emotion.

Psalms is a book for the sinner{we are all sinner saved by grace} telling them of God great mercy and forgiveness. It tells of God’s law in the it’s perfection and pronounces blessing upon all who keep it.

Many quotations from psalms are found in The new testament, at least twenty of these directly refers to Christ and His life and death.

Psalm can provide us with many helps to name a few.

Help in trouble, distress and illness.

We could write forever on the goodness of The Psalms. during the coming weeks we will attempt to explain some of the greatest Psalms individually in more detail.

All the Psalms are great and perhaps in time we might get to explain all, but for now we will attempt to explain the ones that we believe are of particular importance for our walk with OUR LORD AND FRIEND
