Reflective Moment ‘The Race’

Image

The Apostle Paul uses the image of a race in his letters;

! Corinthians 9 verse 24;

Galatians 2 verse 2;

Galatians 5 verse 7:

2 Timothy 4 verse 7;

The image of a race, would have sat well with the cultures of Paul’s day, particularly the Greeks and the Romans, who prized athletic prowess. The winners of a race would be given a prize, which was usually a laurel crown for their heads. These days if we look at the Olympics for an example, the winners receive medals of gold, silver and bronze.

If we relate the race to the Christians life, the finishing line means heaven, the prize is eternal life with Our Lord and Our Friend. But like all athletes we must keep training, keep learning, and keep at doing our best.

As Christians, our individual journeys  through life, are as Ambassadors for His Kingdom, therefore we have a higher reason for doing our best. Our journeys are like those of a marathon runner, there will be trials of our endurance along the way, and James 1 verse 12: assure us:

“Blessed is a man {or Woman} who endures trails, because when he passes the test he {or she} will receive the crown of life that He has promised to those who love Him”.

If we are finding our journey difficult, perhaps we need to come to the Handbook of Life {The Bible} and dig deeper to refresh ourselves again from it’s Living Word.

God Bless.
