The the times we live, there is a lot of disillusionment around. ‘is there a God at all’. Things that go around come around, in the days when Ezekiel lived it was also a time of disillusionment.
It was easy to think that God was dead, or had least forgotten to do anything. Life seemed a meaningless mess, with world affairs out of control, and people disillusioned everywhere. Yet Ezekiel’s favorite name for God was ‘The Sovereign Lord.
Ezekiel despite all the disillusionment around him, God was still sovereign, meaning That God is always in control.
Our Lord and Our Friend is our Sovereign Lord. We may have shorten our title for Him to Our Lord and Our Friend, but He is Our Lord, Our Savior, Our Redeemer, Our Friend, Our All-sufficiency and More.
When we know God as Sovereign, it does not matter what goes on around us, because we are living in His Sovereignty. There are not enough words to describe how Great is
James 2 verse 23: Tells us: “So the scripture was fulfilled that says, Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him for righteousness, and he was called God’s friend”.
So it is possible to be friends with Our Awesome and Sovereign God.
John 15 verse 14: Jesus speaking: “You are My friends if you do what I command you”.
And the command He gave us, verse 12; “This is my command; love one another as I have loved you”.
To called Our Lord and Our Friend’s friend requires obedience, obedience to Love as He loves. But He makes that easy for us to. Verse 11: “I have spoken these things to you so that My joy may be in you and your joy may be complete”.
It is truly still beyond imaging, how Awesome and Sovereign Our God is, and He is so Awesome and Sovereign that, if we follow the plans He has for our lives, an be obedient to His ways, verse 15:
“I do not call you slaves anymore, because a slave doesn’t know what his master is doing, I have called you friends, because I have made known everything I have heard from My Father”.
The whole basis of Ezekiel’s ministry was that the Sovereign Lord had spoken to Him and given him that key. We, too, may be disillusioned, by events and things around our lives, but we, too need Ezekiel’s message that Our God is Sovereign, and Our God reigns in the world as well as in our hearts.
