
When we left yesterday Jonah was on the run from God. The ship he was on struck trouble, the captain of the ship, woke Jonah to Get Jonah to pray.
Jonah owns up and told them he was the cause of the storm because he was running from God. {Are there storms around your life stop running and ask Jesus to help.}
Jonah told them to throw him overboard, the crew were not so sure this, but they eventually did. The rest of the story is well known, Jonah is swallowed by a large fish {some say whale.} Inside the fish he prayed.
Jonah chapter 2 “Jonah’s prayer”
Jonah cries to God from the belly of the fish. Jonah vividly describes his near death by drowning, the fate which God saved him from. Uncomfortably though he is now, he comes to his senses, remembering his true loyalty.
Jonah 2 verse 8 Those who cling to worthless idols forsake faithful love.
God responds by returning him to the world of light and air Jonah 2 verse 10.
Jonah will have a chance to begin again. Jonah goes to Nineveh. Jonah message produces a remarkable effect. The whole city, from the greatest to the least, repents, and God spares them.
It was a hard lesson for Jonah about God’s compassion.

Don’t be surprised if God’s plan differ from your.
Be willing to do hard things God asks.
Remember that God cares for the world and not just the church.
