We have a continuing theme through this ministry AS SUCH A TIME AS THIS. We would be remiss if we did not look at Habakkuk as an example for such a time as this.

Habakkuk looking around Judah in the early seventh century B C, he could not understand why God tolerated such sinfulness among His people. We need to discover how to move from confusion about the ways of God, to confidence in His purposes. Only as we inhabit the vast world of God’s sovereignty can we rise above confusion, and move with confidence into the days ahead. this is what Habakkuk did, this is what we must do too, if we are to learn how to live life to the full.

No other Old testament prophet, can be a better companion for us at such a time as this.

Some people find it hard simply to believe. They are full of doubts and questions. When they can’t understand what God is doing. they feel, they cannot completely trust God. But it is right to question, we need these people, without them faith would be dull.

Faith is a belief and should not be used as a medicine, that just relieves our fears without touching the rrot cause of our problems.

Faith should be active and interesting and if faith is not stretched and exercised intellectually, as well as emotionally, practically, as well as spiritually.

Faith believes, that God knows what He is doing and He can even handle the problems questions we put to Him, even though we might not like the way< He answers our questioning.

Habakkuk is unafraid to speak his doubts, but is very ready to listen to God’s answers. He sought answers and his genuinely open to receive the answers fro God.

God has a habit of shocking people, too. He shocked the church leader’s in Jesus’ day, when Jesus who claimed to be the Messiah  (and He was and is) acted in away that did not come with the expected behavior of the Messiah. We all know what happened to Jesus they plotted to kill Him.

Habakkuk 1 verse 3 Why do you force me to look at injustice. Why do you tolerate wrong doing. Oppression and violence are right in front of me. Strife is ongoing and conflict escalates.

Sound familiar could be what a questioning person says today. The very first thing we must do whenever we are confused by God’s seeming non-intervention in human affairs is to admit our confusion.

It is not a weakness of faith. God has given us a mind to question. We might not understand why God allows things to happen the way He does, but I can say even though I do not understand all the ways of Almighty God, a God who gave His Son to die for me on a cross has to have a good reason for everything. A God like this has my absolute TRUST.

Understand what God has done for us because He loves us.

Faith is often at it strongest when our insight is weakest.Habakkuk enters into a long term outlook, in his final  prayer his alone can move him to rejoice even when the circumstances are bare. Habakkuk 3 verses 17 and 18

V 17 Though the fig tree does not bud and there is no fruit on the vines, though the olive crop fails, and the fields produce no food. Though there is no sheep in the pen,and no cattle in the stalls.

V 18 Yet I will triumph in the Lord. I will rejoice in the God of my salvation.

Habakkuk knows despite his doubts he will get the strength to go on Habakkuk v19

Yahweh my lord my strength; He makes my feet like those of a deer and enables me to walk on the mountain heights.

We all need to be true to God and grow, we need to accept Habakkuk’s long term vision.

Summary of Habakkuk  Asks why God seems to ignore wrongdoings.

Then questions why God uses godless people to punish wrong doing.

And finally recognizes that God’s sovereignty and justice are finely balanced and true.

Habakkuk 2 verse 14  For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the Lord’s glory, as the waters cover the sea.

God delivered His people from Egypt and Babylon.

God has provided a greater deliverance when He made a way to bring us from the dominion of satan , to the Kingdom of Heaven.

In the old testament a sacrificial lamb could provide redemption for a family or individual.

In the New Testament the Lamb of God (Jesus) purchased not just for an individual or family, but for the SINS OF THE WHOLE WORLD.

We can mediate on the glorious Fact. that Our Lord and Our Friend, has overcome the darkness of death, and by His glorious resurrection has given us the eternal pledge that because He lives, we shall also live.   What a promise!

Habakkuk questioned, Habakkuk found the knowing of the sovereignty of God.

Habakkuk was born for his time, and we have been born to ours. That Sovereignty of knowing Him.

God Bless
