From The Heart

Peace be still

“Peace be still” were the words Jesus spoke to the storm when the disciples were in fear of losing their lives (Mark 4:39). “And He arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased and there was a great calm.”

In our world today, with wars and rumors of wars, many could be facing fear as the disciples did. Our Lord and Friend warned us in John 16:33 “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation, but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” Sometimes the storm continues to rage around us, but in our hearts and minds we can have ‘peace that passes understanding.” Philippians 4:6-7.

John 14:26-27 “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you. Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”

The mighty Holy Spirit has come to dwell in our hearts to help and strengthen us, to be our ‘ever-present help in time of trouble’. Peace is a fruit of the Spirit and as we lean into Him and His strength, we can find courage and peace in the midst of life’s challenges. He has promised to never leave nor forsake us.

Our Lord and Our Friend gives us this ‘peace that passes our understanding’, and as we present our prayers and requests to Him, this peace is able to guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. He is the Mighty Prince of Peace. We can trust Him.

Shalom.
