From The Heart

Come and dine the Master calls

Do you recall the words of that old song? “Come and dine the Master calls, come and dine, you can sup at Jesus’ table all the time; He who fed the multitudes, turned the water into wine, to the hungry calleth now – come and dine.”

Last weekend we had a visiting minister who spoke about The Lords Table. She reminded us of the invitation in Revelation 3:20 “Behold I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him and he with Me.” An invitation to dine with our Lord and Friend.

Someone was asked to summarize the New Testament in three sentences. They were : “I love you. I forgive you. Let’s eat.”

Many of the stories in the gospels are around Jesus eating with various people. There is something special about eating together. If we are following our Saviour, then maybe this example of coming around a meal together is something to be planned and practiced. I know I have been challenged.

Tonight we had a delicious dinner with a brother from church who was so impacted by the message on Sunday that he said he was prompted to invite us for a meal. Wow. Spontaneous. Obedient. Delicious. We had a great time of fellowship as well.

This message lines up with passages of Scripture I have been meditating on these last few months. Proverbs 9:4-6 The Passion Translation “Whoever wants to know me and receive my wisdom, come and dine at my table and drink my wine. Lay aside your simple thoughts and leave your paths behind. Agree with my ways, live in my truth, and you will find righteousness.”

What an invitation. Let’s dine at the table with our Lord and Friend, being filled to overflowing; so that we can give out to others, whether it be around the table or wherever we are.

Shalom.
