Wisdoms feast
Proverbs 9:4-6 “Whoever wants to know me and receive my wisdom, come and dine at my table and drink my wine. Lay aside your simple thoughts and leave your paths behind. Agree with my ways, live in my truth, and your will find righteousness.” The Passion Translation
I have been camping by this Scripture for a little while. These words have had me thinking ‘lay aside your simple thoughts and leave your paths behind. Agree with my ways and live in my truth”.
Recently we had a visiting speaker, who asked the question “who is your worst enemy?” The answer for many was ‘themselves.’ He was talking about the words we speak and the power of our words. Our thoughts are often where the words begin and I began pondering ‘what thoughts do we allow to flow through our minds, often unchecked or unnoticed, that affect our perception about ourselves’.
This Scripture says ‘lay aside your simple thoughts’. The Amplified Bible verse 4a “whoever is simple (easily led astray and wavering) indicates that these simple thoughts are not life-giving and have the ability to lead us astray.
Our Lord and Friend wants us to meditate on what He says about us, agree with Him and His truth and walk in His ways. Don’t let the ‘little foxes spoil the vine”. Those thoughts of condemnation and discouragement come to draw us away from His plans and purposes for us.
Let’s be aware and take ‘every thought captive to the obedience of Christ”, as we renew our minds with the Word of Truth. Jesus is the Truth. Let’s leave our old paths, the old patterns of thinking and allow His Word to transform us.
‘Trust in His timing – Rely on His promises – Wait for His answers – Believe in His miracles – Rejoice in His goodness – Relax in His Presence.
Shalom.
