Anointed and set apart to serve

Every year, in January, our church holds an anointing oil service. It’s a special day where every person attending is invited to come and be anointed with oil for the year ahead. Special anointing oil is prepared according to the ingredients mentioned in Exodus 30:22-25, with the understanding that the oil is a symbolic representation of Holy Spirit.

1 John 2:20 “You have an anointing from the Holy One (you have been set apart, specially gifted and prepared by the Holy Spirit), and all of you know (the truth because He teaches us, illuminates our minds, and guards us from error).

Speaking of our Lord Jesus Christ in Hebrews 1:9, “Therefore, God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of gladness above your companions.”

In the natural realm, oil is used for many purposes. For example, for light that shines/illuminates dark places; for lubrication which enables things to work smoothly together; for preparing a nourishing meal; an ointment that refreshes skin; for energy that keeps us connected, warm, safe and protected.

Romans 1:20 “For ever since the creation of the world, His invisible attributes, His eternal power and Divine Nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through His workmanship (all His creation, the wonderful things that He has made.). Through the natural realm, we are given insight into the spiritual things of God.

1 John 2:27 “but the anointing that you have received from Him abides in you”. Thank You Father. Holy Spirit abides in us and we in Him. And so, our anointing service is a reminder of the truth that we are indeed, set apart for service, for a holy purpose, as priests and kings in the Kingdom of our Lord and Friend.

I pray that you will see yourself anointed with the oil of gladness as we walk in His Presence daily this year.

Shalom.

Kath
