Dealing With Difficulties ‘Lethargy’

Dealing with Difficulties Lethargy

Lethargy is described as a state of weariness that involves diminished energy, mental capacity, and motivation. Lethargy and fatigue often go hand in hand, but lethargy generally refers to a low amount of energy. Some common causes could be a medical condition, stress, lack of sleep, lack of exercise, ageing or side effects of medication, lack of purpose or vision.

Spiritual lethargy may be defined as a state of indifference regarding one’s own spiritual growth and vitality. A.W. Towser described this condition “there is little communion and little joy in the Lord”. Lethargy comes from the Greek ‘lethargos’, originally meaning “inactive through forgetfulness”.

Whatever the cause of our lethargy, we know that we can come to our Lord and Friend and He will help us to overcome; give us wisdom and rest. We know that the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for the pulling down of strongholds. The enemy comes to rob, kill, and destroy, but our Lord and Friend says, “I have come that you may have life in abundance, a prosperous life’. When the enemy comes to rob us of our peace and joy, and to tell us we have no purpose; our response is found in the promises in the Word of God, as weapons of our warfare.

We can declare: (Romans 14:17) The Kingdom of God is righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit.” (1 Corinthians 1 verse 30) says “but of Him you are in Christ Jesus, Who became for us wisdom from God, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption.” (Philippians 1:6) “being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus”. (Philippians 2 verse 13) “(not in your own strength) for it is God Who is all the while effectually at work in you (energizing and creating in you the power and desire), both to will and to work for His good pleasure and satisfaction and delight.”

Our God is faithful. He is for us. He will not leave us alone. We can trust Him to bring us through every trial and temptation. He has won the victory for us, and He is teaching us to be overcomers.

God Bless you richly
