By faith and patience we inherit the promises. Hebrews 6:12
As I was waking this morning, I was thinking of things that work together in the scriptures.
For example the scripture above – ‘faith and patience’ – Hebrews 12:7 says ‘it is for discipline that you endure’ – Gal 5:6 “faith works through love’.
However it is ‘faith and patience’ that grabbed my attention. This winter has been the coldest I have known. Coming from sunny, tropical Cairns in December 2016, I had previously only had mild winters and they were short lived!
In the last few months we moved house (in that unusual wet event), and all the stressors that go with moving, finding tradesmen to ‘fix’ things one doesn’t notice when inspecting the house, etc. etc., I think my immune system has been challenged and I found my body succumbed to a flu virus. Oh no!
I received prayer, quoted scriptures, and took whatever concoctions I could think of (both natural and medical) – but the cough and tightening in my chest remained. I know it has to go! But physically, symptoms are still there and I find it both annoying and challenging.
“By the stripes of Jesus we were healed” “Many are the afflictions of the righteous but the Lord delivers us out of them all” – and so many more scriptures we are able to quote.
So ‘faith and patience’, hmmm.
Actually I find this scripture very encouraging, it gives me great hope. It the midst of this challenge, I can trust that the Lord is working, He is leading me ‘through the valley’. His character is that He is faithful and good.
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him. So that you may overflow in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Romans 15:13
