n our ‘Faith In Action’ article we referred to Abigail and you can find the story of Abigail in 1 Samuel verses 2 to 42:
Abigail was Nabal’s wife, who later became the wife of David. Nabal was a wealthy sheep owner whose holding had been protected by David’s men. When David requested provisions in return for protection, Nabal refused. An angry david set out with 400 of his armed men to destroy Nabal and his house.
Abigail heard about er husband behavior and met with David with many provisions, taking the blame for her husband’s foolishness.Abigail was a peace maker, and David thanked god for using Abigail to restrain his anger.
when Nabal woke the next morning after being excessively drunk, he learned what had happened and he had a stoke from which he died 10 days later.
Abigail then married David and live with him in his life among the Philistines. David had to rescue her when she was captured by the Amalekites, She went with David to Hebron when he became king. Abigail was the mother of David’s second son Chileab, also called Daniel. 2 Samuel 3 verse 3 and 1 Chronicles 3 verse 1.
Abigail was a faithful person first towards her husband Nabal, by stopping him being destroyed by David. After his death she became faithful to David.
Matthew 5 verse 9: “God bless those that work for peace, for they will be called the children of God”.
Abigail was a peacemaker, and very faithful lady. Thus we include Abigail in our ‘People of Faith’ series.
