Who We Really Are
! Peter 2 verse 9 to 12;
!st and 2nd Peter was written and most followers at the time were scattered throughout the Roman empire. They were troubling times followers were being persecuted by both the Romans and the religious leaders of the time.
Troubling times which would have made them think, as probably some do now, about dealing with doubts and about their worth and even significance.
So here Peter, in the midst of all this that was going on, writes to remind the followers what it means to belong to Christ Jesus.
No matter what the society thought about them then and what it thinks about followers today.
Christ has called us out of darkness into light, and to Christ Jesus we are important.
We are A Chosen Generation, God is Ominicent, All knowing, and they like we are among God’s elect, selected based on the foreknowledge and born again to a living hope.
John 3 verse 16; Any ‘whosoever’ can come, it is a chose not to or to, but God knew who would because He is All-knowing.
God called out of darkness sin, into His glorious light.
A Royal Priesthood, they and us are apart of God plan to build a kingdom of priest, a people that would serve Him. Exodus 19 verse 6 “And you will be my Kingdom of Priest and My Holy Nation”. Romans 12 verse 1 “Therefore, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, I urge you to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God.
A Holy Nation, They and us are to be Holy, like Our God Who created us. 1 Peter 1 verse 16: “Be you Holy, because I Am Holy.” Their and Our lifestyles are to reflect His Character and display a commitment that we belong to Him
A Special People, They and us, are invited to enter into a unique relationship with God and each other. Hebrews 4 verse 16: “Therefore let us approach the throne of grace with boldness, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help at the proper time”.
Those early Christians need encouragement. Today as we try to find our own place in the world and the church, these affirmation can raise our confidence, to be who we were created to be.
