THE KEEPER OF OUR SOULS
Jesus was not so much interested in the outside of your person but extremely vigilant for your soul. He knew if we were faithful, innocent, wise, truthful, obedient, caring, selfish or of false presentation. He could see into your heart and soul, there was no hiding your character from him. In Proverbs 22 it states in verse 29, “…. but an upright man gives thought to his ways” and in verse 30, “There is no wisdom, no insight, no plan that can succeed against the Lord.”
Chapter 22, “A good name is more desirable than great riches: to be esteemed is better than silver or gold” (2) Rich and poor have this in common: the Lord is the maker of them all.’ Here the Lord is making a point, that to him he does not discriminate between poverty, or wealth but it is the production of our souls that are important to our God. It is the inner wisdom and loving heart that matter. Verse 16: “He who oppresses the poor to increase his wealth, and he who gives gifts to the rich, both will come to poverty”. In verse 17: “Pay attention and listen to the sayings of the wise: apply your heart to what I teach for it is pleasing when you keep them in your heart.”
Chapter 23-verse 22: Listen to your father who gave you life, and do not despise your mother when she is old. Verse 23: ‘Buy the truth and do not, sell it: get wisdom, discipline and understanding’.
God tells you to be clean of heart and soul as he measures your worthiness and can trust the person he has created, that the outer garments are not just a cover for a sinner who pretends to be otherwise. Be warned, that you cannot hide behind a disguise because the Lord of light has his eyes on your inner soul. “My son, if your heart is wise, then my heart will be glad. My inmost being will rejoice when your lips speak what is right.”
LISTEN, CLEANSE YOUR SOULS.
