The Spirit Of The Lord Is Upon Me

luke 4

In Luke verse 4 Jesus is reading from Isaiah 61. It is no coincidence that Jesus read from here at the synagogue in Nazareth.

Luke 4 verse 18 and 19:

Verse 18: “The Spirit of the Lord is on Me, because He has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim freedom to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set free the oppressed,”

Verse 19: “to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”

Jesus was alluding to the year of Jubilee— the year every 50 years when slave would be freed, debts would be cancelled and land would be returned to it,s original owners. Jesus says that He is who Isaiah was talking about. He is the ‘Captive freer’ and the ‘Jubilee-Fulfiller”of the so many of the promises that God had spoken to His people through time.

But people didn’t understand that He was going to set them free from a different captor—Sin and all of it’s awful consequences.

Jesus has come to set the oppressed free, in Him free from fear, free from doubts that may haunt us, free from anger, free from depression, free from guilt, free from, all things that Sin has done to our live.

Some people don’t like to talk about sin, it is simply wrong-doings against The God that created us,

Jeremiah 29 verse 11: tells us He has plans for our lives, plans for good and not for ruin. Following a plan is always a good idea, but following God plan for our lives, set us free in a glorious freedom He has for ‘anywhosoever’.

Revelation 3 verse 20 “Listen I stand at the door and knock, If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him {or her} and have dinner with He {or she} with me.

He wants to have relationship with us, that what we were created for, not to be bound by sin.

God Bless.
