LISTENING TO LAMENTS AND LIES
Jeremiah’s lamenting came from the heart where he questions the life of the people in his despair. “Is the Lord not in Zion? Is her King no longer there?’ ‘Why have they provoked me to anger with their images, with their worthless foreign idols?’ In frustration he says, ‘The harvest is past, the summer has ended and we are not SAVED.’ In mourning he is crushed with horror. “Is there no physician there? Why then is there no healing for the wounds of my people?’
“They make ready their tongue like a bow to shoot lies. Friend deceives friend and no one speaks the truth. They have taught their tongues to lie.” (Chapter 9)
There are specific references here to the society we now live in where deceit and lies are commonplace and truth is alien to the language of today. We need a physician to heal the wounds of falseness, pride and the rejection of the laws the Lord proclaimed. Where the majority of so called ‘Rulers’ of our countries will operate from truth, justice and honorable behavior. Our bleeding wounds need our healer reinstated with God’s principles and justice of pure morality. “Trust and Truth” as a motto for life, should therefore reign.
Surely we who worship our God do observe the peoples of the world today can see the similarities in the book of Jeremiah’s woes? Take heed of the words above, ‘and we are not SAVED!’ How applicable this is for today don’t you think?
