Gideon ‘Mighty Warrior’

Our story comes from Judges chapter 6:

There seemed to be a story that repeated itself over and over again in the Old Testament, which was, the people of Israel soon forgot about God and the way He had helped them in their troubles.

And again before long they were in trouble again, this time they were frightened out of their wits by a new kind of foe. The new foe was the Midianites, did not attack the people, they plundered the land. They would wait until harvest was ready, then swoop down the country side and carry off the grain and the ripe grapes and olives. They also stole the donkeys and sheep and cattle too.

The Midianites were joined by violent desert tribes, riding on swift camels. The Israelites were terrified and would hid and cower in the caves and the hills until the attacks were over.

This was a continuing event, at the time of Harvest, the raids would happen leaving nothing for the Israelites during the winter months. Seven years it took before they humbled themselves, and called to God to help them.

The Truth of the matter is that Our Lord and Our Friend is ready to help us, in any time of our needs, because He said he would never leave us or forsake us.

There was a young man Gideon, from the tribe of Manasseh. who was just as scared as everyone else. Gideon had thought of a way to keep some of the harvest, he hid in the hollowed-out rock, where the grapes were usually pressed. There well hidden he would beat out some wheat into grain.

If God wants to use you, He has a way of getting a message to you, most likely in a way you don’t suspect, like Gideon. Gideon was hiding in a place were he thought he could not be seen. Gideon looked up and he saw a stranger, that would be enough to terrify the young man even further .

The rather timid young man would have even been more surprised, at what the stranger said,”The Lord is with mighty warrior”. Gideon like us all had all the questions in the world for the stranger. The Lord doesn’t listen to our excuses, He knows all our capabilities and will never give us more than we can handle.

Then Gideon was told, “Go in the strength you have and deliver Israel from the power of Midian, Am I not sending you.” Gideon had more excuses {Judges 6 verse 15}.

Gideon believed he was no hero, but with God all things are possible.

The word to Gideon was that God would be with him {Judges 6 verse 16}.

Our Life once we accept the calling of Our Lord and Our Friend, becomes an adventure were He plans to do great things through all our lives. Do you see injustice happening around you, are you hiding thinking they will just go away. Well look up the Lord just may want to use you in those circumstances

Mathew 9 verse 37: “Then He {The Lord} said to His disciples, ‘The harvest is abundant, but the workers are few’.”

We will share the rest of the Story of Gideon’s calling and victories at a later date.

This story is about the adventures we can have in Our Lord and Our Friend, if we answer His calling.

God Bless.
