There are many opportunities around us to witness for Our Lord and Our Friend. I wonder what great opportunities are around all our lives to share about His great Love.

Opportunity around our own communities.that will challenge us all to step out of our comfort zones. Opportunities to share The Good News with our family, friends and neighbors.

Maybe Our Lord is calling you to do something for Him, that will provide you with great opportunities, to be His witness.

Today we are going to talk about a young nurse, who lived around the time of the outbreak of the Crimean War. The young nurse with a team of thirty eight women volunteers set sail to the conflict to treat the British Soldiers.

The young nurse was Florence Nightingale, What she finds when she arrives is beyond description. Soldiers, untreated, lay dying not only from their wounds but from typhoid, cholera, and dysentery. There was a desperate lack of supplies. Nevertheless, Florence goes to work immediately, establishing sanitation, procuring medicines, and making daily rounds, Sometimes there were 5000 wounded soldiers at a time, and soon Florence was regarded as a saint, an angel sent to save their lives.

So what caused Florence Nightingale. a woman born into an upper class family, to leave behind a life of ease and become involved in a swamp of human misery? A journal entry she wrote during a trip to Cairo offers a partial answer: “God called me in the morning and asked me, “Would I do good for Him alone without reputation.”

Our Lord and Our Friend is still in the business of calling, but are we still in the business of listening. Something, it seems, spoke into Florence’s heart. Was it a glimpse of a world healed of it’s suffering?  Well her relentless work on behalf of the sick transformed the role of the nurse. The nurse was at the time a menial and despised occupation, but through Florence’s efforts became more respected and a professional career,

Florence Nightingale become known as the Lady Of The Lamp, she followed her calling when Her God called, and changed circumstances and situations for the good. She followed a calling which gave her great opportunities.

Our Lord and Our Friend could be calling any of us,will we accept the call and all the great opportunities to live a life that reflects him in everything we do.

Great opportunities are around us all, let all be people known as People of The Light of His Presence.
