The ‘Now’ Conumdrum

People are living for the Now, Tomorrows is just a thought and Eternity is out of mind.

Lets look at the concept in the story of Abram {Later became Abraham}. Genesis 12: God’s promise to Abram. God told Abram he would make him a great nation. So Abram move from Haran to the land that God promised Canaan.

Genesis 12 V2  “I {God} will make you into a great nation, I will bless you, I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing.”

Abram had it all the Now, the tomorrows was a famine.

The Tomorrows became the Now. Now there was a famine in the land, and Abram went down to Egypt to live for a while because the famine was severe. As Abram was about to enter Egypt, he said to his wife Sarai, “I know what a beautiful woman you are. When the Egyptians see you, they will say, “this is his wife.” Then they will kill me but will let you live. Say you are my sister, so that I will be treated well for your sake and my life will be spared because of you.’

God’s promise was that he would make him a great nation, and really because that was a promise from God it would be done. But Abram NOW had changed and he took his mind off the Eternal promise, and told Pharaoh a lie to preserve his Now.

God is quite capable of keeping His promises, even if circumstances around us change and look bleak. God doesn’t expect us to tell a lie to protect our Nows.

The great idea Abram had for his Now, inflicted serious problems on Pharaoh. Pharaoh summons Abram and confronts him about the lie and tells him and his wife to leave his country.

This was a lesson for Abram from a pagan Pharaoh. Pharaoh had to tell the God-blessed Abram the truth and give Abram a lesson in morality.

Despite all the blessings and faith, which were in  Abram’s Now, that should have transformed  Abram’s Tomorrows, Abram descends into unbelieving, which jeopardizes everything that he was promised {the Eternal} because he was scared.

In Acts 3 verse 25; “And in your seed {Abraham’s} see all the families of the earth will be blessed.”

Galatians 3 verse 8  “All the nations will be blessed in you {Abraham}.”

It is a general ongoing promise and indicates that All families of the earth are blessed in the availability of Salvation through Christ Jesus.

The Now is accepting the promise, Our Tomorrows are living in the promise, with Eternity our eternal destiny always in focus.

So it doesn’t matter what we are facing and when we are facing it, God is true to his promises, and He said He will never leave us or forsake us .We have no reason to be sacred. We only need to trust and our destiny is secure, but take heart because even Abram became scared on his journey of faith.

Our Lord and Our Friend is Our Now, Our Tomorrow and Our Eternity, Abram did turn his situation around, and he became Abraham and God’s covenant was fulfilled.

God Bless.
