His delight is in me
“His love broke open the way, and He brought me into a beautiful, broad
place. He rescued me – because His delight is in me.”
Psalm 18:19 The Passion Translation
The last few days I have been reading Psalm 18 and this verse captured
my heart.
‘He rescued me – because His delight is in me.’ Do you know that the
Lord delights in you? Words from Psalm 139 flash through my thoughts
“such knowledge is too wonderful for me”.
These words do indeed fill me with wonder: That the Creator of the
universe ‘delights in me’. He rescued me and brought me into a
beautiful broad place.
When I think of a broad place, I imagine somewhere where I don’t have
to be so aware of stumbling or having to place my feet carefully in a
special place, because here, there is space and time to just ‘be me’.
Proverbs 8:31, (speaking of Wisdom), says “I laughed and played, so
happy with what He had made, while finding my delight in the children of
men.” Again, we see that our Lord and Friend finds delight in us.
This, to me is truly amazing. No matter what circumstance we find
ourselves in, and some I know are more difficult than others, we can
meditate on this truth and take comfort, that our Lord “delights in us”.
He is always for us, always with us, and another confirmation comes
from Zephaniah 3:17 NLT “for the Lord your God is living among you, He
is a mighty Saviour. He will take delight in you with gladness. With His
love, He will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful
songs.”
