Resting place of His love
This week as I was reading the book of Ephesians in The Passion Translation, I came across verse 17 in chapter 3; “Then, by constantly using your faith, the life of Christ will be released deep inside you, and the resting place of His love will become the very source and root of your life.”
Don’t we all long for that deep rest in our hearts and souls? In the midst of trouble and challenges of life, we desire to know (to experience) that deep rest that settles our hearts and minds. Psalm 131 verse 2 “surely I have calmed and quieted my soul, like a weaned child with his mother; like a weaned child is my soul within me.”
I was reminded of another verse that I particularly love from Psalm 18:19 NKJV “He also brought me out into a broad place, He delivered me because He delighted in me.” Some other translations call this ‘broad place’; ‘a spacious place’; ‘a place of safety’; ‘a large place’. Whichever translation speaks to your heart, I believe each one brings to mind a sense of ease, rest, freedom, creativity and grace. A place to just ‘be who you are’, with no fear of judgement or condemnation.
Ephesians 3:17, calls this ‘the resting place of His love’. Think on that. What does it feel like to be ‘in the resting place of His love.’ ? A place where the life of Christ is released deep inside us. Where the ‘resting place of His love’, the love of our Lord and Friend, is the very root and source of our life. It is our stability.
And the reason we can be secure and safe in this knowledge, is as Psalm 18:19 tells us that “He delivered me because He delighted in me.” The Creator of the universe, our Lord and Friend, God Almighty, Abba Father delights in you and me. How wonderful.
Our Lord Jesus Christ has made the way open for us to receive all of this. Through His birth, death and resurrection He brings us the Way to the Father and this resting place of His love. We just need to ask and receive.
May you know the deep abiding rest of dwelling in Christ forever.
Shalom.
