From The Heart

Overcomer

This morning as I was having a quiet coffee, I found myself reading over some old journal entries I had written back in 2023.

There were some quotes that caught my attention. “God doesn’t call us to survive; He calls us to overcome.” “God is about to take you into your most productive season, if you’ll stop chasing donkeys and stop hiding in your own insecurity.” “All God’s promises have a time frame. He is not necessarily a right now God. He is a right time God.”

I so love that Holy Spirit often leads us to just the right book, person or journal entry that we need at the time. This journal entry is both encouraging and challenging. It was like listening to a sermon and feeling like Father God is at work in my garden, doing a pruning work (John Chapter 15). He chops off wrong concepts and wrong thinking and leaves us feeling cleaner and more free. It’s like our feet can get tangled in the weeds – and a good pruning is wonderful.

The parable of the sower in Mark chapter 4 verse 18, Jesus talks about the seed sown among thorns (weeds) which are the cares of this world, the deceitfulness of riches and the desires for other things which can choke the Word.

Mark 4:24 says “pay attention to what you hear”. I find this has to apply to my own thoughts. Sometimes we have ANTS – Automatic Negative Thought Syndrome – and we need to pay attention and not let them remain.

One answer is to ‘speak to the mountain’, whether it be anxiety, false guilt, shame, fear or condemnation to name a few. Our Lord and Friend spoke the Word when He was tempted. He is the Author and Finisher of our faith. We overcome by relying on Holy Spirit to lead us, trusting in Him and doing what He shows us.

Shalom and God bless you.
