From The Heart

Call to be tender hearted….

Pauls’ exhortation in Ephesians 4:32 is “Be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you”

Today we attended a small intimate wedding, at which my husband had the privilege of officiating . No matter whether small or large, a wedding is always such a precious thing to witness, as two people commit to walk together, “til death us do part”. I was mindful of the above verse, which is one that is often read at a wedding in our country.

The Greek word eusplagchnos meaning tender-hearted or compassionate, is sometimes also taken to mean ‘strong-hearted’. One definition of “tender” is showing gentleness, kindness and affection. Gentleness and kindness are fruits/evidence of the Holy Spirit’s indwelling Presence in our hearts.

Ephesians 4:32 “forgiving one another as God in Christ forgave you”. Wow! God’s grace is sufficient in every circumstance so that we have the power/strength to walk in forgiveness.

Colossians chapter 3 verse 12 AMP “Clothe yourselves therefore, as God’s own chosen ones (His own picked representatives) (who are) purified and holy and well beloved (by God Himself) by putting on behavior marked (by) tenderhearted pity and mercy, kind feeling, a humble opinion of yourselves, gentle ways (and) patience (which is tireless and long suffering, and has the power to endure whatever comes, with good temper.”

Whether it be in marriage or in everyday relationships, this Scripture is so wise and challenging. We know our Lord and Friend wants the very best for our lives, and for us live in His “peace that passes understanding” and His joy “unspeakable and full of glory” – Kingdom living.

Psalm 104 verse 4 “The Lord redeems our life from the pit and corruption; He beautifies, dignifies and crowns us with loving kindness and tender mercies”.

Freely we have received, and by His grace, we can freely give.

Shalom.
