From The Heart

Life Motivation

I have just spent several hours this afternoon in wonderful fellowship with a young friend and sister in the Lord.

Though we don’t see each other all that often, when we get together, we share our love for Jesus and the gifts He has placed on our lives. Just as “iron sharpens iron”, we can jump from one topic to another and find such joy and encouragement as we see how our Lord and Friend is working not only in our hearts and lives, but also in those of our families and friends. We share in the awe and wonder of His love and faithfulness and goodness.

One of our discussions was about motivation. Proverbs 16:26 “Life motivation comes from the deep longings of the heart, and the passion to see them fulfilled urges you onward.” The Passion Translation. Successful motivation is aligned with identity and purpose.

Something that occurred to me after I dropped her to the local train station was the strengthening and joy of sweet fellowship. A quote I read said “fellowship is a place of grace, where mistakes aren’t rubbed in but rubbed out…” oh my!

Proverbs 27:9 “Ointment and perfume rejoice the heart: so does the sweetness of a man’s friend by hearty counsel.” The Passion Translation says it like this; “Sweet friendships refresh the soul and awaken our hearts with joy, for good friends are like the anointing oil that yields the fragrant incense of God’s Presence.”

May our motivation be to ‘love one another fervently from the heart’; purpose to be an encouragement to someone; and may you find sweet fellowship with a friend this week. Remember, the Holy Spirit is always with us, a friend who sticks closer than a brother.

Shalom

Kath
